This is the question we are asked most often, and you do not need to answer it before you contact us. It helps to know roughly what each one means, because the words get used interchangeably and they are three different jobs with three different quotes.
The tree stays and only some branches come off
That is pruning. It suits a tree that is healthy enough to keep but has branches over a roof, across a driveway, into a neighbour's yard or growing where they are in the way. Tree pruning is targeted: specific branches, for a specific reason.
The tree stays but needs to be noticeably smaller
That is usually lopping. It suits a tree that has outgrown its position and needs height or spread reduced for clearance, rather than a few branches taken off.
The tree needs to go
That is removal. It suits a tree that is in the wrong place, is causing a problem that branch work will not solve, or has to make way for something else on the property. Removal and stump grinding are separate services, so tell us if you want the stump dealt with as well.
If you are not sure which of the three fits, describe what you can see and what you want to change. We will identify the service when we prepare the quote and tell you plainly if a smaller job would do the same thing.

What happens to green waste?
Tree work produces material, and where it ends up is a fair question to ask before you book anything. It is also one of the things people contact us about on its own — a pile of branches after a storm, timber left behind by someone else, or a garden clean-up that produced more than a bin will take.
Green waste removal is a service in its own right, not an assumption bolted onto every job. That means two things for you:
- if you want the material taken away as part of tree work, say so in your enquiry and it will be set out in the quote; and
- if the tree work is already done and only the material is left, you can ask for green waste removal by itself.
Tell us roughly what is there — branches, logs, cuttings, palm fronds, hedge trimmings — and whether it can be reached from a driveway or has to be carried out. That is usually enough for us to quote it.
